The Albany Rotary Club was proud to demonstrate that commitment once again during a recent visit to Hood’s House of Hoops, where members presented a gift of new basketball gear and equipment to support the organization’s impactful youth programming.
For Rotary, partnerships like this aren’t just symbolic; they reflect core values of service, community investment, and long-term relationship building. Hood’s House of Hoops, founded and led by Jamil “Hood” Jr., provides a safe, structured, and inspiring environment for local youth to learn the game of basketball, develop discipline, embrace teamwork, and gain the confidence that carries far beyond the court. Supporting an organization so deeply rooted in mentorship and youth development is perfectly aligned with Rotary’s mission.
During the visit, members had the chance to tour the facility, meet with Jamil, and see firsthand the heart, energy, and vision behind House of Hoops. What stood out most was not just the quality of the programs, but the passion Jamil brings to empowering young people—helping them build character, stay engaged, and strive for excellence in all areas of life.
The visit also offered a few lighthearted moments. Rotarian Jessica Wilcox gamely admitted that her free-throw skills have gotten a bit rusty over the years and promised she’d be practicing before her next visit. Laughter and camaraderie filled the gym, reminding everyone that community partnerships are also about connection, joy, and shared experiences.
