Twleve Years of ThanksGIVING meals.

Allie B's Cozy Kitchen and Albany came together once again to celebrate 12 incredible years of giving away Thanksgiving meals to families in our community and what a week it’s been. Albany Rotary and Albany Mosaic showed up in service and support.
From the days leading up to the holiday, Albany Rotary donated and did the shopping for sweet potato pies, cranberries, cornbread, mac & cheese, cake mixes. To members of both Albany and Albany Mosaic showing up on Thanksgiving day, streets lined double parked with cars loading trunks and hand-delivering meals all around the capital region.
This is what community looks like. This is what service above self feels like. We are all grateful to be part
of a city that takes care of one another. This is what community is all about.

For twelve remarkable years, AllieB’s Cozy Kitchen has opened its heart—and its ovens—to ensure that families throughout Albany and the capital region feel the comfort and joy of a nourishing Thanksgiving meal. What began as a small gesture of kindness has grown into a beloved community tradition, powered by local generosity and the unwavering spirit of service that defines our region.

This year, the Albany Rotary Club proudly joined the effort, donating sweet potato pies, cranberry sauce, cornbread, mac-and-cheese fixings, and cake mixes to help fill the holiday tables of neighbors in need. With each contribution, club members reaffirmed a simple truth: when we pool our resources and our compassion, we multiply our impact. There are so many that step up to make this happen!

Thanksgiving Day itself buzzed with purpose. In a beautiful show of unity, volunteers from around the capital region including both the Albany Rotary Club and the Albany Mosaic Rotary Club came together to deliver and distribute hundreds of freshly prepared meals right to doorsteps across the city. Car trunks were loaded with foil pans, warm aromas, and handed off with smiles and warm wishes holiday cheer. Members bundled up against the brisk November air, ready to bring nourishment, comfort, and a reminder that the community cares.

Albany Rotary and Albany Mosaic Rotary may meet at different times, attract members with different schedules, and often focus on distinct service areas—but the heart behind their work is the same. Companion clubs in every sense, they show how Rotary’s strength lies in collaboration, flexibility, and shared values. Side by side, they demonstrate that service is not about uniformity; it is about unity. Unite for Good.

The beauty of companion clubs is found in the way each contributes something unique while moving toward the same goal: improving lives. One club might bring decades of tradition and broad civic connections; the other infuses fresh perspectives, innovative approaches, and new voices into the conversation. Together, they amplify each other’s abilities. Together, they reach more families. Together, they embody Rotary’s motto: Service Above Self.

This year’s Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway was more than a food distribution effort—it was a celebration of connection. From AllieB’s Cozy Kitchen, which continues to anchor this project with devotion and culinary care, to every volunteer who drove through city neighborhoods with warm meals in hand, the effort reflected what community looks like at its best.

As Albany faces the challenges and hopes of each new year, these partnerships remind us that kindness is a renewable resource. There will always be families who need a little support, and there will always be people—Rotarians, neighbors, friends—ready to step up. Twelve years in, the tradition shines brighter than ever.

And as long as there are meals to share and hands willing to help, AllieB’s Cozy Kitchen, Rotary and numerous community partners will be there, proving that gratitude is most powerful when it is given away.   If you look closely at the photos you may recognize  a some faces other than local Rotarians.
